Donald Trump is known for advocating truth. He searches every corner of the White House for evidence of corruption and hidden agendas, aiming to expose these to the public and bolster his reputation. This approach persisted in his response to the COVID-19 pandemic when, on April 19, 2025, the White House issued a bold statement alongside a webpage titled ‘Lab Leak: The True Origins of COVID-19. The implementation of the website involved replacing critical public health resources like Covid.gov and Covidtests.gov, meaning these websites are no longer accessible, as they redirect to here. –Try it yourself! The page, featuring President Trump, explains that the ‘Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2‘ paper, published in Nature Medicine, was used to promote the narrative that COVID-19 originated naturally, suppressing the lab leak theory, which builds on factual evidence and into which we will deep dive in this article.
Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2
The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2 is a scientific correspondence published by Nature Medicine on March 17, 2020. The paper analyses the genomic features of SARS-CoV-2 and argues that the virus is nor a laboratory construct or purposefully manipulated virus, thereby actively attempting to undermine and ignore concrete evidence that invalidates the natural origin narrative
New documents leaked from the U.S. Right to Know’s proposals in January and April 2025 revealing the 2018 DEFUSE program proposal by EcoHealth Alliance’s Peter Daszak, UNC’s Ralph Baric, and Zhengli Shi from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, aiming to engineer bat coronaviruses with features eerily similar to SARS-CoV-2, including inserting furin cleavage sites at the S1/S2 junction of spike proteins and assembling synthetic viruses in six segments—traits matching the pandemic virus’s genome. The lab leak theory, promoted by President Trump, builds on multiple points of evidence, asserting that the virus is not merely similar to the coronaviruses that were proposed for engineering in the DEFUSE program, but that it is technically impossible for SARS-CoV-2—and thus COVID-19—to have originated naturally. Furthermore, the government-run webpage mentions the virus’s unique biological traits and single human jump (patient zero), who, coincidentally, was located in the same place as the research lab, along with reports of Wuhan researchers’ 2019 illnesses, suggesting it was artificially crafted, as a natural origin would have spread across multiple patients and multiple locations contracting the virus. Backed by a Republican House Oversight Comittee report it also accuses exposes Dr. Anthony Fauci and the NIH of obstructing the truth to push a natural origin narrative.
A CIA report, published in January 2025, calls the lab leak theory “more likely,” while other critics have also voiced their opinions on the subject, arguing that health officials prioritized personal gain and profit over accurate public health guidance.
“Most egregiously, the federal government demonized alternative treatments and disfavored narratives, such as the lab leak theory, in a shameful effort to coerce and control the American people’s health decisions.
When those efforts failed, the Biden Administration resorted to “outright censorship—coercing and colluding with the world’s largest social media companies to censor all COVID-19-related dissent.” – highlighted in the White House’s publication
The White House’s pivot, under the Trump administration, prioritizes the lab leak narrative over public health guidance. The site’s accusations against Fauci, Francis Collins, and EcoHealth Alliance for funding risky WIV research—linked to gain-of-function experiments and LIPS assays for SARS-CoV detection—have sparked accountability demands. Fulfilling predictions from early lab leak advocates and “conspiracy theorists“, the endorsement also underscores the capacity of government officials—such as those under the Biden administration—for corruption and for favoring profit over public health by hiding and censoring accurate information, promoting unnecessary vaccines, and silencing doctors and unbiased researchers as mentioned on the site. As geopolitical tensions rise, the focus on figures like Daszak, Baric, Shi, and Linfa Wang, alongside institutions like UNC and the National Wildlife Health Center, risks overshadowing urgent pandemic preparedness needs.
