13th: What You Need to Know

In the past few days, those who pay attention to detail may have already noticed that the moon is shining brighter than in most moon phases. Well this is due to a rare celestial event called the Full Pink Moon. It will reach its peak on the night of April 13th, when stargazers will have the perfect opportunity to observe a stunning constellation that appears once a year.

When and Where To See It

On the night of April 13th, the sky will unveil a stunning spectacle: the Full Pink Moon, a rare celestial event named for spring’s vibrant blooms, casting a luminous glow for stargazers to cherish. The moon will reach it’s peak illumination in the early hours of the night however, the exact time will vary slightly depending on your timezone and it will remain visibly enlarged and bright throughout the entire night. For the best viewing experience, we recommend finding a spot away from city light pollution, ideally with a clear view of the eastern horizon where the moon rises. The event will be visible to the naked eye, requiring no special equipment, as the moon will appear strikingly with a golden hue just as it rises. The next expected Full Pink moon will be around April 4th, 2026.

What Is the Pink Moon?

The name “Pink Moon” comes from an old European naming tradition. The name is inspired by one of the earliest blooming wildflowers, Phlox Subulata, also known as moss pink. Each year, around this time in spring, the moon marks the period when these vibrant pink blossoms begin to appear, signaling renewal and rebirth.

While the name might mislead some into expecting a colorful lunar display across the night sky, the Pink Moon doesn’t actually appear pink. Instead, its light reflects sunlight with increased illumination, and due to atmospheric particles, it creates a beautiful golden hue around the horizon as it rises.
